While undergoing a Masters Degree in Environmental Science and Technology, Jose Maria Silva participated in the online course Aerobic Granular Sludge Technology for Wastewater Treatment. Read about his experience.

What was your motivation for enrolling in this course?
I am someone constantly looking to improve my knowledge and expand the vision of where the trend of new technologies is taking us, and TU Delft was a sure bet in terms of quality.

I am currently undergoing a Master’s Degree in Environmental Science and Technology with a focus on wastewater treatment processes. When a course about aerobic granular sludge opened, the opportunity to become a better professional in my field appeared.

It is widely known that the Netherlands is an example to follow for many in the handling of water resources, so from a professional perspective the opportunity to explore this technology, which is explained by the creators themselves, was more than attractive.

How would you describe your online learning experience?
Pleasant and rewarding. The contents are well organized and the workload is distributed in a way that you do not feel exhausting pressure and at the same time it is challenging so you can demonstrate knowledge.

The course material is vast and includes a lot of support material, such as recent scientific papers. The instructors have a deep understanding of the whole content, and a very important asset is the feedback they provide. When you deliver a task, it is not just graded, also comments are included, thus rounding your learning experience. In addition to this, they were available in the forum if you had questions or comments.

All this created a flexible learning environment that you can accommodate to your needs and pace. The interaction with other participants and instructors make you feel comfortable, but more than that you feel surrounded by people that push you towards excellence.
