Open Data Challenges

How can we enable and improve open data use and value creation? With so many available sources, managing and using this data has become more complex and challenging.

To harness the power of open data new approaches are required. If we want to benefit from increased transparency, greater understanding of public and private problems, enhanced innovation and economic growth we need strong guidelines and innovative ideas for open data policy making as well as its development and use.

The results of a survey conducted with participants of TU Delft’s MOOC on Open Government (2017) show some of the main barriers and concerns among open data users and policy makers.

Professionals interested in further exploring the potential of open data can join our online course ‘Open Data Governance: from Policy to Use’. This course provides professional insights from scientific research conducted all over the world by experts in the fields of open data governance and use. The course is also enriched with the participation of specialists and representatives of leading international universities (e.g. the State University of New York, the University of Macedonia), research organizations (e.g. DANS: the Netherlands Institute for Permanent Access to Digital Research Resources), the World Wide Web Consortium and the European Data Portal.
