"What I learned provided me with new vocabulary and methods to approach the challenge of combining company values, innovation needs and ethics."
While working as a head of quality and business development in ELIX, a company that operates in the plastics industry, Toni Prunera Casellas participated in the online course Responsible Innovation. Read about his experience.
I am happy that I had the opportunity to participate in the Responsible Innovation course. It was a great way to learn the concept of Responsible Innovation and what impact it can have on the business. What I learned provided me with new vocabulary and methods to approach the challenge of combining company values, innovation needs and ethics. Using the knowledge I gained in the course, I managed to develop a simple but effective tool that enables the discussion about such issues with the development team in my company.
For one year, we have used the Value Sensitive Design (VSD) matrix to discuss Responsible Innovation internally based on the innovation values of our company. The results were that new projects for 2016 have been selected based on both VSD criteria as well as standard business criteria. We are very proud with the results of this process.
How would you describe your online learning experience?
I have taken several online courses before – what I like is that I can select between different topics that I find interesting. I also like the flexibility – not only I can choose when to learn in the time that is convenient for me, I can also choose what to learn – I put time and effort in the topics I need, and skip material that I already know or do not require at this moment. This is something that normally not possible in typical "offline" courses.
