Roy Ricaldi is a doctoral researcher in cybercrime from The Netherlands. He participated in the online course Economics of Cybersecurity: Business Strategies and Policy Interventions.

What was your motivation for enrolling in this course/program?
I chose this program because it is relevant to my research. I study Cybercrime and Emerging Threats. Understanding how to mitigate them is a part of it, and to do this, getting deeper knowledge of how the actors involved interact and make decisions is super important.

How did/will this course impact your career or life?
This course helped me reflect on research gaps from different perspectives of cybersecurity, and to think about problems in a specific context, like the attacker, the user, the manager, or policy maker. It was also useful to know who are the main professors and researchers, teaching and working on these topics within cybersecurity economics. I now know who I can contact for clarification, or future collaborations.

How was your experience of learning online?
The materials offered were of the best quality. It is helpful to have experienced instructors handpick the content you will be learning from, as they have learned from it themselves, or many times produced it themselves. I found the required readings specially insightful, but the lectures were extremely useful as well. The availability of the instructors during the live sessions was also appreciated.

What advice would you give someone who is thinking of taking a similar course?
Take all of the courses! It will help you get a broader understanding of cybersecurity economics. I have benefited myself from taking multiple of them.
