While working at an engineering research organization as an assistant manager, Muhammad Amir participated in the online course Aircraft Performance: Physics and Simulation. Read about his experience.
What was your motivation for enrolling in this course?
Aircraft performance is the backbone of any aerospace industry. It not only provides you with the techniques to calculate performance parameters such as take-off distance, range etc. but it also helps you to suggest improvements for future aircraft designs.
I have worked in the Aerospace industry for more than four years and frequently come across practical scenarios that are not fully covered in the theory. This course beautifully bridged this gap between theory and practice by interviews with test pilots. The course helped me to evaluate Aircraft Performance in variety of operating conditions and with different constraints. The best thing about the course is that I can now develop my own physics-based computer-based simulations to handle more realistic aircraft operations. I found the course a perfect fit for my work.
How would you describe your online learning experience?
One of the best things about online learning is that I can pick up a course from a world class university like TU Delft, that otherwise would not be possible for me due to monetary and travelling constraints. Online learning allows me to watch lectures in my spare time and thus does not hamper my daily commitments.
The structure of the course was very easy to follow and video lectures beautifully explained the various topics. Professor Mark and his team were very helpful and actively participated in the discussion forums. The other positive of this course was the weekly video conferencing with the professor that lets us directly engage in the discussion on topics related to the course. For any future training, I would definitely prefer a similar online learning experience.
