Harm Hofman is a retired electrical engineer. He participated in the online course Technology of Intelligent and Integrated Energy Systems. Read about his experience.

What was your motivation for enrolling in this course/program?
I am retired, but still connected to the EU Reformers project, of which TU Delft is also a partner. I was educated as electrical engineer in energy systems and was involved in total energy system and wind energy, but switched to a logistic job and had not much to do with technology since 1984.

I wanted to use this course to orient myself again on new developments to be able to understand things better in Reformer meetings. Next to the knowledge can be useful for me as volunteer within Duurzaam Heiloo.

How was your experience of learning online?
I followed many courses also online and have given courses myself as a teacher but also for written education (LOI). The design of the course as well as the execution was very professional. The content matched my needs. I did not participate in the certificate because I no longer need it for my career. But I think following the course can be recommended for certain functions.

The workload was nice. Most of the videos can be seen again and the summary can be printed out, which I personally find useful to have an overview. It is all possible in this course design.

The reaction on the questions was very extensive, clear and structured. I enjoyed every lesson and the information was very useful.

What advice would you give someone who is thinking of taking a similar course?
I did besides many other studies also my education (masters) at the university in evening studies. Study a discipline you like. Whatever form of study you do; with self-discipline it always works. Follow the schedule, do the homework on time, if you don't understand the core look it up immediately and don't postpone it (Wikipedia or Youtube helps a lot). Success guaranteed certainly with this excellent teaching material.
