What was your motivation for enrolling in this course/program?
I was motivated to enrol in the course from both personal and professional perspectives. There is a market focus on and demand for connecting and integrating the shopfloor (cyber-physical systems), I foresee that the next wave (which may be already happening) will concentrate on applying AI in an engineering and manufacturing context. The course provided a feasible bootstrap to learn more about the potential AI provides, including from a business strategy point of view. My objectives were realized.
How did/will this course impact your career or life?
After attending this course, I feel more comfortable in the field and the potential effective usage in classification, prediction and optimization challenges of this enabling technology. I am able to speak the right language in conversation with AI specialists and have a better understanding of potential fields of application within the engineering and manufacturing domain.
How was your experience of learning online?
The course provided a good foundation, without going into too much (technical) detail. The mix of media usage was good and references to additional relevant material were provided. The exchange of insights and experiences from other participants have been a real added value element. The assignments challenged and stimulated thinking about applying the knowledge gathered in one's own work context (e.g., I liked the creation of a roadmap). The schedule meant I could combine study with job/work obligations in terms of time management and the flexibility the online format offers.
What advice would you give someone who is thinking of taking a similar course?
I would recommend attending if you want to get a solid, broad introduction to the field of 'AI in Manufacturing' and want to learn more about applications of this enabling technology and concepts that make sense and add real business value. It is most useful if you bring a couple of years of work experience and are familiar with 'systems way of thinking and approaching challenges', preferably 'the Delft way'. This will help to get most out of the course assignments.
