Bio

Saba Hinrichs-Krapels is an associate professor and Delft Technology Fellow at TU Delft, applying systems and design approaches to complex decision-making in health systems. She was previously Deputy Director of the King’s Global Health Institute, senior analyst at RAND Europe, and a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Cambridge, where she also completed her PhD in Engineering Design (Health Systems).
Her work focuses on improving evidence-based policymaking and technology adoption across the full spectrum of health systems—from population-level interventions and prevention strategies to the delivery of care in hospitals and community settings. With a background in public policy, health systems performance, and innovation in healthcare, Saba is especially interested in health systems as critical infrastructure.
Her research investigates how systems can become more resilient and sustainable—recovering from acute shocks and adapting to long-term challenges. She combines complex systems modelling with participatory design and engagement methods to co-create and evaluate interventions in real-world contexts.
Saba's current work spans service planning, capacity and resource management, and the sustainable adoption of technologies, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. She also explores how health systems intersect with other infrastructure—such as energy, supply chains, and water—especially in under-resourced and urban environments.
