Bio
Rainer Böhme is professor of Computer Science and Head of the Security & Privacy Laboratory at the University of Innsbruck in Austria. As an engineer with a background in economics and media science, he is known for his interdisciplinary approach to solving challenging problems in information security and privacy.
Rainer’s research interests include digital forensics, information hiding, privacy-enhancing technologies, economic and behavioral aspects of information security and privacy, and – last but not least – digital currencies and cryptographic financial instruments. He has conceived prediction markets for software vulnerabilities and pioneered research into cyber insurance.
Rainer holds a PhD in Computer Science from the TU Dresden in Germany. He has also held positions at the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Münster in Germany, the MIT Media Lab, and has worked for the European Central Bank and the Bank for International Settlements.
