Marleen Keijzer is assistant professor at the Delft Institute of Applied Mathematics of the Delft University of Technology. She is responsible for a first-year course mathematical modelling. Marleen loves teaching and gives many other courses and practicals at the University e.g. in differential equations, calculus, linear algebra, numerical analysis and presentation skills.
Marleen has supervised many students in their BSc, MSc and PhD research projects in applied mathematics. Recently, many of these projects were on radiotherapy treatment planning in cooperation with the Erasmus Medical Center Cancer Institute in Rotterdam.
Her own PhD project was on calculations of how laser light distributes in human tissues. For that project, she worked in four places: the Erasmus Medical Center Cancer Institute in Rotterdam, the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, and finally the Delft Institute of Applied Mathematics.
