Bio

Federico Taruffi is an assistant professor in the Wind Energy section at the faculty of Aerospace Engineering. His research focuses on experimental testing for floating offshore wind energy.
Federico earned his master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano in 2018, and subsequently, he pursued a PhD in the same institution with a dissertation on large-scale model testing of floating turbines in 2022.
Federico is researching the aerodynamics of floating wind turbines with experimental testing in wind tunnel, following a “hybrid” approach to realistically reproduce the coupling between aero- and hydrodynamics. His research aims to address the challenge of fully understanding the complex aerodynamic loads and wakes of floating wind turbines, to inform the numerical tools used for their design and optimisation at the turbine and farm levels.
