Bio

Damiano Casalino has been Professor of Aeroacoustics at Delft University of Technology since 2016. As chair of aeroacoustics, he is responsible of both academic activities (lectures, final thesis and PhD coaching) and team-research activities in the field of aircraft and wind-turbine aeroacoustics. He is a specialist in the field of high-fidelity aeroacoustic numerical simulation and is the (co)author of more than 100 relevant publications.

Damiano completed his PhD studies in 2002 in Ecole Centrale de Lyon (Aeroacoustics) and Turin Polytechnic (Fluid Mechanics). After a post-doc on a collaborative development of a Large Eddy Simulation software for broadband noise prediction (EC funded project TurboNoise-CFD), he worked three years in a French CFD software company before joining the Italian Aerospace Research Center in 2006. Since 2012, Damiano is director at Exa Corp., now member of the Dassault Systèmes group, where he manages a team in charge of developing applications of the Lattice Boltzmann software PowerFLOW in the aerospace field, with a specific focus on aeroacoustic applications.

research interest

  • Aero-engine noise, tonal and broadband noise generation mechanisms in turbofan and turboprop engines
  • Jet installation noise
  • Acoustic liners
  • Low-Reynolds propellers: transitional flows and noise mechanisms
