Cynthia Liem is an Associate Professor in the Multimedia Computing Group at Delft University of Technology. Her research focuses on trustworthy and responsible AI, particularly in perspective-broadening AI—helping users discover content beyond their usual interests.
Her interdisciplinary work includes fair hiring practices, where she collaborates with organisational psychologists to examine machine learning biases. She also works with journalists and public institutions, including as an independent director for DUO’s investigation into algorithmic discrimination. Her contributions have been recognised with the Women in AI Netherlands Diversity Leader Award and the Harper's Bazaar Women of the Year Dyson Pioneer Award (2024).
