Bio

Henk Noorman was trained as a Chemical Engineer at Groningen University (NL). He obtained a PhD in Biotechnology from Delft University of Technology (NL), on microbal systems modeling in 1991. He became a post-doc fellow in a Nordic research consortium, and co-ordinated a fermentation scale-up project among academic groups in Sweden, Denmark and Norway. He then joined Gist-brocades and DSM (now dsm-firmenich) in Delft (NL, 1994) and worked on fermentation development and implementation projects, in the areas of antibiotics, biobased chemicals and food/feed ingredients. He has also been a project manager for innovation projects.

Henk currently is Senior Science Fellow Sustainable Biosystems Engineering and involved in numerous Industrial Biotechnology projects. In addition to this he is a honorary professor at Technical University Delft working on Bioprocess Design and Integration, and Scientific Director of the research program on Artificial Intelligence for Biotechnology (AI4b.io) with TU Delft and DSM.

research interest

Henk Noorman uses his research to advance open innovation in industrial processes that use renewable, clean fuels as a base. His work in both academics and industry allows him to directly put theory into practice. This way a world with elements from the 'bio-based economy' is within reach.
